[GW] Up Close To The Stars

Hmmm… this sounds like it is going to be about celebrities. It isn’t. Don’t run away.

So I’m looking at my Hall of Monuments calculator again. This evening was productive. I got the eight minipets I needed for the 20 Miniature Statues 2 pointer in the Devotion monument, and this leaves me at a heady 29 points. One point short of my goal.

So now I guess I need to come up with a course of action. I have multiple possibilities for this final point. Let’s take stock.

Valor : Tormented Weapon Statue

Okay, this is pretty darned unlikely. Sure it is a guaranteed point but these things are ungodly expensive. Could I get one before GW2 comes out? Sure. But I’d literally be spending all my time in game grinding for cash to get one, and that just wouldn’t be any fun at all, no matter if the game is free2play or not.

Resilience : 7 Armour Statue

To get this I’d need probably 140k gold. Again this would be achievable after a lot of grinding but really, I simply can’t be bothered. The same goes for my other options in the Resilience category: the Vabbian Armour Statue or the Obsidian Armour Statue. The process has been grind enough. Sure I’ve enjoyed quite a lot of it, but some of it has me thanking the heavens that ArenaNet are working with their “nobody enjoys grinding” policy for Guild Wars 2.

Honor : 10 Statues

This one is doable, I guess. I need four more title-related statues to get this. I’m missing the Eternal Protector of Elona title which I should be able to do much easier now I have a much better understanding of how the game works, but after that I’m not entirely sure what I’d go for. The Cartographer titles sound quite appealing — I’ve been so focused on these points that I haven’t really taken much time to actually go out and truly explore the lands of Guild Wars. I’ll have a read up on them — after all, if I just do the three cartographer titles I get a fourth one for free, which would be me sorted for that extra point!

Fellowship : 30 Companion Statues

I could do this. I have nine heroes that need special armour. If I can get a working group setup to complete Glint’s Challenge then it wouldn’t be a problem. So far every setup I’ve tried has failed though. I suspect I need more Mesmers… Will read up on that again.

On top of that I’d also need to grab the Black Widow Spider from the Underworld. After my time there during Halloween, I’m honestly not sure it’s a place I’d wish to properly explore…

Devotion : 30 Miniature Statues

Arguably this would be the easiest for me to do. 10 more common 1st or 2nd year minis wouldn’t cost me any more than 50k. Shouldn’t, anyways. That’d be cheaper than the armour sets and certainly cheaper than a tormented weapon. Sure I’d have to work on grinding some more cash, but hopefully I’ll be winding up with some of that now I’ve finished War in Kryta and can round up the Hearts of the North and Winds of Change mini-campaigns.

Conclusions?

I’m going to work on the assumption that nobody who reads this blog is an incredibly rich Guild Wars veteran who is going to gift me a tormented weapon so I think my logical choices are really the miniatures or the cartographer stuff. Both will take time. Arguably the minis would take less time: if it comes to it, I could repeated Thackeray’s Rise quest fifty times and have a nice chunk of cash (and rep) from selling drops, war supplies, and the guaranteed platinum on completion.

Of course I’d be utterly sick of the quest by then…

[MMO] Keeping Things On the Level: The Importance of Mentoring

I’ll be honest: one of the features of Guild Wars 2 that I didn’t like as much as I expected is the sidekicking system, where the game decides what level you should be in a particular area and, if you are higher tha...

[GAMING] January 2013
